My name is Estera Basic-Pecek and I was born in Zagreb, The Republic of Croatia as the younger child of a Professional Photographer and a Biology Teacher. From early childhood I was interested in Art and Craft.
I studied and graduated Visual Arts at the School of Applied Arts and Architecture University of Zagreb. In the first few years of working as a Junior Architect I won very important awards for my work and a particular award was the first prize for the International competition for Young Architects. I got married in 1991, soon after, my husband and I migrated to Germany and then later in 1995, again migrated to Australia. 3 months after the arrival my son was born and I was out of work. That was the time when I rediscovered craft and art, my gift for photography and I become very passionate about using it in daily life. In between my studies and different not-so-creative jobs, I started my own business for Interior Decorating and Colour Consullting, which was terribly hard to run from home and had to close down due to inadequate space.
A few years ago I became a member in a Craft Shop and this is where my interest in art and crafts started to flourish again. I rediscoverd my interest in colours, fabrics, different materials and textures and a great passion to re-use and repurpose clothes and different items to make modern craft and art that is accessible to everybody. Since then, I have had my creative works exhibited and featured in such notable places as Wyreena Gallery, The National Wool Museum established in Geelong, Bohemian Rhapsody and several lesser known Café-Galleries.
